You will notice some sponsored links have just been added to the header of every page. If this experiment goes well, then I can keep the forums online forever and ever. (Server space with PHP and MySQL functions, it ain't free.)

When I float my cursor finger over the links above, the only one that appears to go anywhere (gives me the address at the bottom) is the "Ads by Google"... the rest keep the cursor as a finger but don't show addresses, so you may want to check that they will actually generate income for you by being properly linked.

Good luck in this endeavor!

The guy who adds ads to his site is forbidden (in the advertiser's terms of service) to click them himself, even to test them.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Click_fraud

So I can only assume that the links work properly. It's highly possible that the usual hovering effect has been rewritten with Javascript for reasons known only to the advertiser. Notice that there is something inside the link if you right-click it and select "properties."

Thanks for the feedback!

I did in fact CLICK one of the links and it appeared to work properly. Do you get paid when we, your users click on those links, or do we have to go deeper in and buy something?

No, I don't get paid when anyone clicks on the link bar that sits on top of my discussion forums, but I will get a boost in my account balance when someone chooses a destination provided on the big page of links that appears beyond my forum page.

The Google check arrives after my balance reaches 100 bucks, and for the many months I've had the Google account (which I began in October 2006 when I began LexJB.com), my balance still hasn't reached 100 bucks.

PLEASE don't commit click fraud just to get me my first paycheck quicker. I am fine with just messin' around with this program until I figure out exactly what it does and how much I can expect to earn.

My Google account is slowly accumulating some bucks!
My Dreamhost account needs some help, though:
Arrow http://www.dreamhost.com/donate.cgi?id=5718
At the end of this month, I have to renew my domain fees and hosting fees, so feel free to contribute cash to the costs of having a family discussion forum.

In other news, here is a link posted as a favor to Danielle, who wants the search engines to index her new site:
http://PureLang.com/
If you have a website of your own, please post a link to Danielle's site; this will boost her search-engine credibility.

it would help to know what the fee is so a reasonable donation can be made, not one that can be laughed at, or one that ends up paying your fee for 5 years.

I'm on the "Crazy Domain Insane" plan shown on this list of plans:
http://www.dreamhost.com/hosting.html

If you are looking to start your own domain, I recommend this plan, and I would be pleased if you sign up for it by using this DreamHost referral link that earns me some referral credit.

You might think that I have abandoned my website, since there's been no activity here in the forums for about a week, but I have actually been doing a lot of fine tuning in other areas of the website.

All my experimenting is focused on improving traffic on pages that my family and friends don't need to see (which leads to improving revenue from the Google ads on those pages). First I study my logfiles a little more closely, and then I write different keywords on my pages that have ads.

The way I see it, if I put a little more effort into my search engine optimization skills, I can make a little bit of travel money without having to work too hard. The webpages can do the work for me. We'll see what happens.

In five days, my domain and my hosting are up for renewal.

Two updates to report:
  • After watching the traffic and the revenue, I've decided to remove the Google ads from this forum. It was kinda interesting to see which ads popped up on which pages, but ultimately it was pointless to have them. So goodbye to them.
  • The domain and hosting have been renewed. LexJB.com and talk.LexJB.com live on! (see my WHOIS info)

I'm glad the forum is still alive and well. I'm sorry the Google thing didn't pan out for you, but I appreciate the effort you put into it.

I've just added a new domain to my virtual real-estate portfolio.
Arrow http://ky-lexington.com/

With a little bit of effort, I'll bet I can make a little bit of money from online advertisements. Basically, I'm just upgrading what I learned from my experiments with http://lexington-ky.lexjb.com/

By posting a link to this article, I believe that Google might boost Danielle's website in their search results:

All the dedicated JBTalk users will be thrilled to learn that this entire JBMason web empire pays for itself in Google advertising income. So there's no need to worry about me going broke and shutting it all down.

The Google checks will keep coming after I'm dead; this website can outlive me for as long as Google is in business.
