Since I'm not keeping a blog anymore, I feel like posting this little bit of bloggable info somewhere that Google can find it:

Today I was hanging out with a coworker in Frankfort at lunchtime, and I noticed one of those ADA-compliant signs (on a government building) that has both print and Braille on it. Can you picture it? Just a regular sign, written two different ways for accessibility reasons.

Well, the kicker is that this sign was TAPED TO THE INSIDE OF A GLASS DOOR, facing out so that people on the sidewalk can read it. That cracked me up!!! Show me the magic blind man who can read Braille through a sheet of glass.

Well, "I ain't no hollaback girl," but I just had to say that is hilarious! Seems like they'd know that it can't be touched by a blind person, but they still hang it thinking they're in compliance...

Hey, Dawn, if you like hilarious, you might want to come watch me do karaoke tonight! I'm not fully confirmed on this, but I'm pretty sure that I'll be at Grapevine after 21h30. When I find out for sure, I'll let you know.

By the way, welcome to my discussions. This is quite a surprise.

I'm liking this feature of your site, hence that's why I decided to become an official "member". Do I get a members-only jacket or something cool like that? Very Happy

I just talked to you...sorry I didn't check my messages earlier. I'm starting to miss your karaoke-ing, & my voice is doing better...so maybe after my surgery & recovery I'll be showing up more.

Hope to see you tomorrow!
D.

okay... this is definitely a change of topic, but I apparently posted the same message twice, and when I came in to delete one (because it was MY post), my only option was to edit... how do we delete our own posts?

At least I wasn't the only one to get off topic...Mr. Moderator himself did it first Very Happy ...but that's the way I roll...from one conversation to the next without creating a "new topic". I'm glad you pointed out I wasn't the only one LOL.

as you'll see if you backtrack to find this quote, I originally posted my double-post a minute apart from each other this morning. when I went to delete/edit, it placed the new post in the original order rather than considering it a "new" post.

Help me, Mr. Admin!

I see no evidence of a double post, so I reckon you've discovered the little delete button (which is just an X) between the EDIT button and the IP button. It seems like only yesterday that I deleted a duplicate post from Dawn using that handy X button.

No, the "X" and "IP" buttons only exist for moderator (or maybe even only administrator) on strings not moderated by the visitor... did that make sense?

I was able to edit Cheryl's post on the board I moderate, but on the ones you moderate, I can only quote everyone else and quote or edit my own. When I float over the "edit" button it says "edit/delete" but there is no delete. So you don't see a double post because I completely changed the info in what would have been the first of two identical posts.

I noticed that you had deleted a double post yesterday (or the day before, I guess); I had seen it as a double and then later there was only one. So what I should have done was left my double post for you as the moderator to delete one. But then we should not have had this discussion...

Hey, I found the delete button! But it's not on old posts... is it a feature you've added since this discussion? Just curious... also, what is BBCode, or don't I want to know?

I'm not bothering to add features here, even though it is possible to do so through modifications ("mods") of the PHP code. I just use what the software already has, so anything important you see (apart from the change of logo or footer text or superficial/cosmetic stuff) came with the program and has been there from the get-go.

Regarding BBCode, take a close look at the reply window, the next time you reply. You'll see a block of text on the lower left that includes the line "BBCode is ON," and "BBCode" is underlined. Click that to see the instructions for BBCode.

Why, then, is there Braille on drive-through ATMs?

WAY TO GO, CHERYL! BRINGING US BACK TO TOPIC! YOU GO, GIRL!

(Maybe you should find a way to post more often so you don't have to do the marathon, answer-every-thread-in-a-night thing). Very Happy

Everyone knows the answer to this. In most bank branch locations, the drive-up ATM is the only ATM, so the same ATM gets used by everyone. Naturally, that includes blind people. (They don't drive to it, of course.)

You left out my two favorite places:
http://www.btjunkie.org/
http://www.torrentz.com/

But let's not talk about it here in the Braille topic. You're contaminating the keywords which are used to calculate which advertisements appear at the top of the page.

Here's a webcomic about Braille that reminds me of me:

Maybe I'm not seeing anything wrong with the SocSec webpage because I'm a week late (and they fixed the problem), but everything seems just fine there, so what did I miss?

I just think that it is strange for SS to post an URL to click on if you are blind

Oh, okay, I understand.

If you don't know about website accessibility or screen-reading software or blind websurfers, then you would find this strange. But it is not strange at all to those of us who understand website accessibility and screen-reading software and blind websurfers.
