I just finished watching Knocked Up and am trying to find a bad review of it somewhere. It is getting critical acclaim, as well as big-box-office rewards, but I am left wondering why. The reviewers call it "hilarious," and it was not hilarious -- a hilarious movie is one where my stomach hurts from laughing so much. I am almost indifferent about this film. I might even call it "skippable." It certainly did not impress me the way it's impressing everyone else.

I haven't seen it or any reviews of it, either (good, bad, or indifferent) but there was a girl on set tonight who was talking about a website called "Rotten Tomatoes" where they give you the good and bad and then average it out... she said that site had given it a 92% approval, but when she saw it, all she really got out of it was that it was just a long version of the "40-Year-Old Virgin" scene where the two guys are one-upping each other about "I know you're gay because...", which was a fine, funny scene the first time, but 2 hours?

Dunno what to tell you, because even if you decide to check "Rotten Tomatoes" henceforth, they still apparently got it wrong for you this time. I agree with you that "hilarious" should mean side-splitting laughter... like "40-Year-Old Virgin" was for me when it came out.

I am familiar with RottenTomatoes but hadn't checked it before I wrote this review. 92? That's astounding.

Another site, MetaCritic, serves the same purpose as RottenTomatoes, and their score is 85.

I suppose my score is exactly 50 because I can take it or leave it.
