I have an excellent newspaper clipping from my mom, an article called "Meet the Donald Trump of Tightwads." I'll show it to you sometime. It boosts my spirits, every time I read it.

Wait a minute! What is this thread about again? oh, that's right. marriage, or something like it.

I always knew that the thing that broke Colin and me up more than anything was the lack of communication. It's most important. He discovered it when he remarried and I discovered it when I started dating again. Speak your mind (out loud - not just online) and listen when she speaks her mind. This will advance you in any relationship in which you choose to indulge.

Is it work? Yes. But the good kind. Backbreaking, but worth it. Having someone to lean on is something I miss. I'll find it again. Maybe Brian is still the one for me. We're just too damned civilized for me to be able to tell if we broke up or not!

Um, hello, lack of communication does not equal civilized. Butch and I are civilized enough to know that we are not together and therefore only need to communicate when one of us loses a parent. No further contact equals NOT A COUPLE.

I have an avatar! Brett made it!

To connect to the thread:

Most people I know are tired of pouring energy and time and etc. into relationships that seem to inevitably fail. So they've just stopped. Pouring energy instead into friendships and hobbies and sometimes family. Seems to be a better idea to me.

For the funniness: Brett is in a cafe here in Bloomington and his computer is the only one not a macbook/ibook/imacthing. He realized this only after 2 solid hours as a curious anachronism.

I have every newspaper clipping my grandmother ever sent to me. They all mean love, even if I hate them. So I have them scattered about in books and on shelves and in folders.

The junk emails have slowed; now I just get them from Colombian and French engineers. Those are pretty damn funny, so I don't mind much.
